Chicago Restaurant Week – Table for One

On a recent work trip to the Windy City I arrived on the final day of restaurant week.  I happen to be fond of French food, but find myself living in a small city without such a place.  Whenever I travel to a city so full of outstanding restaurant options, I always choose places that I can’t find in my neck of the woods.  This evening I went with a recommendation from a fellow French food fan.  While living in Chicago, my friend Cathleen had dined at Bistronomic, giving it a strong recommendation.  Luckily for me, she was spot on.  I had a lovely three course dinner with two different wine pairings.  A delicious way to begin my trip in the Windy City.

Bistronomic created a special three-course prix fixe menu based on recipes from Jacques PepinClick here to access recipes from his Heart and Soul in the Kitchen cookbook.  I remember watching him on PBS and seeing him guest host with other famous chefs.  He, like Julia Child, helped me realize that I could cook French food in my own kitchen.  It’s deliciousness wasn’t something I could only enjoy in a fancy-pants restaurant.

Classic starter – crusty, tender bread and butter

Started off with a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc from the Bordeaux region of France.

Appetizer – Fish Tartare

Salmon tartare with watermelon radish, nicoise olive/tobasco vinaigrette and toasted baguette chips.

Entree – Braised & Confit Duck Leg

Paired with a fruity Cabernet Sauvignon this duck was amazing. Crispy skin, tender and juicy. Served with a side of arugula/toasted hazelnut salad and roasted garlic puree. Outstanding.

Dessert – Coffee Panna Cotta

A lovely and light way to end the meal. Flavored with espresso and hazelnut…two things that I enjoy.

Working part-time as a national trainer for an early childhood, parent education and home visiting organization has allowed me to travel across the US.  As someone who believes in finding balance between work and play, I am continually seeking out interesting dining experiences wherever my work takes me.  Last week was no exception.  Mon dîner était délicieux
